This website is dedicated to the spirit and memory of one of Stockbridge GC's finest members and sportsmen. A round of golf with Doug was often a life and swing-changing experience. He exuded openness and compassion in pastel-colored style. His orbit was ever-expanding and inclusive of all.
Life is greyer without him.

MJC and crew----thanks for all the posts; well said on Dr. Doug; certainly a man of peace and may he have so now in eternity. TKD
ReplyDeletehow ironic that most of us learned of dougie's passing as we came to the scorer's tent after completing the last round of the club championship. tears were shed by many and stories shared. i told of doug's making a hole in one on #5 in the karick cup finals, only to then hit the same ball deep into the woods to the right of #6. his opponent, none other than the big lithuanian, scrambled through the swamp, fending off mosquitoes and poison ivy, to retrieve the treasured memento. this was typical of doug's obliviousness on the golf course--he rarely could recall his score on previous holes or, if playing a new course, he couldn't describe one thing about it after the round. he was oblivious because so much of his attention was devoted to earnest and heartfelt conversation with his playing companions.
ReplyDeletebobby kay's comment, made with tears streaming down his face, serves as a perfect epitaph: "doug was the most gentle human being i ever knew." amen and rest in peace.
